The LEDs can then be pushed in by hand, placing them into the cap using light pressure. It is then held securely in place due to the lens cap design. The round lens caps are ideal for protecting the LED against any physical damage, thus potentially improving the life time of the LED in harsher environments. The cap also guards the LED from any electrostatic discharge ESD of up to 16KV.
